Start with a preset, then trade texture for cleaner shapes with Edge detail and Noise cleanup.
Keep a white page for printing or choose transparency before using the outline in another design.
What the controls change
A photograph contains texture, shadows and small brightness changes that a hand-drawn outline would normally ignore. The converter first smooths the image, then measures contrast around each pixel. Edge detail controls how strong a contrast must be before it becomes a black line.
If a face or sky contains too many marks, raise Edge detail or Noise cleanup. If important features disappear, lower Edge detail. Line thickness expands the surviving marks after detection, so it is best adjusted last.
Honest output
This tool does not generate a new interpretation of the subject. It follows edges that are already visible in the source, which makes the result fast, private and structurally faithful. It is useful for tracing references, coloring practice, simple stencils and design drafts.
An edge result can still need manual cleanup for a tattoo, cutting machine, laser, safety stencil or professional print job. Complex hair, foliage and patterned clothing naturally produce more marks than a simple object on a plain background.
Better source photos
Use the sharpest available image and crop unnecessary background before conversion. Side lighting can create useful shape, but very harsh shadows may become extra outlines. For portraits, a plain wall and visible separation between hair, face and clothing usually produce a clearer result than a crowded scene.
Transparent output stores only the dark lines, which is useful when placing the result over a colored page. White output is easier to print immediately. The downloaded PNG keeps the preview dimensions up to 1,200 pixels on the longest side and adds no watermark.
FAQ
Choose a JPG, PNG or WebP photo, select a starting style, adjust edge detail and line thickness, then download the result as a PNG.
No. It detects contrast edges from the original image locally in your browser. It does not invent or redraw features.
Detailed backgrounds, hair and shadows create many contrast edges. Increase Edge detail or Noise cleanup, or begin with a simpler crop.
No. Image reading, line detection and PNG creation all happen on your device.
