When you want to reuse existing 4:5 carousel photos in a 9:16 vertical Reel or video editor, simply forcing a vertical crop cuts off top and bottom composition. Selecting 9:16 (1080×1920) Reel photo canvas fits your complete photos into vertical dimensions while preserving every pixel of the original image.
The math at zero inset: A standard 1080×1350 (4:5) image fitted into a 1080×1920 canvas at 0% safe margin matches the 1080px canvas width exactly. The 1350px height leaves 570px of vertical space, creating exactly 285px of background above and below the photo. If you increase the safe margin slider, the image scales down proportionally: margins appear on the left and right, and the top and bottom background bars increase accordingly.
Background styling: Use a solid neutral color or choose Blurred photo. When blurred photo is active, the blurred background expands and crops to cover the full 9:16 canvas, but your foreground photo remains 100% whole and uncropped.
Important platform limitations: This tool exports up to 10 still image files (JPG or PNG) in an ordered ZIP.
